"Break voting records of previous three phases": Here's PM Modi's special appeal to young voters as the fourth phase of 2019 Lok Sabha elections begins

The nation gears up to cast their votes for 72 parliamentary constituencies spread across nine states in the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections on Monday, April 29. In the fouth phase, heartland states of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan will see voting for the first time, along with Mumbai in Maharashtra.

With three phases of the 2019 elections successfully completed in the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter urging the voters to come in large numbers to exercise their franchise and 'break the records of the previous three phases'. Furthermore, he had a special appeal to the young voters to head to the polling booths and cast their votes in the biggest festival of the democracy.

Fates of 961 candidates contesting for 72 Lok Sabha seats are in the fray, with 128 million people voting in the fourth phase in the country’s seven-phase electoral exercise.

The star candidates whose electoral fortunes will be decided include, Union Ministers Giriraj Singh, Subhash Bhamre, S S Ahluwalia and Babul Supriyo of the BJP and former Union ministers Salman Khurshid and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury of the Congress.

Voting will take place in 17 seats in Maharashtra, 13 each in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, eight in West Bengal, six each in Madhya Pradesh and Odisha, five in Bihar, three in Jharkhand and a part of the Anantnag constituency in Jammu and Kashmir.

Among other key contestants in the fray are Kanhaiya Kumar (CPI), Baijayant Panda (BJP), Urmila Matondkar (Congress), Dimple Yadav (Samajwadi Party), Satabdi Roy (TMC) and Milind Deora (Congress).

Results will be declared with the counting of votes on May 23.
