The Congress party has made a demand for action to Election Commission (EC) against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for violating Model Code of Conduct during his media address after casting his vote in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. Addressing the media, Congress' senior leader Abhishek Singhvi demanded a 48-72 hrs ban on the Prime Minister.

"PM Modi violates Model Code of Conduct not once or twice but thrice. Yesterday night PM deliberately violated Model Code of Conduct. Last time also he did the same. He is a habitual offender and doesn't respect Election Commission. He doesn't care about Election Commission. We showed video of PM's campaign. We requested EC to ban PM from campaigning for 48-72 hrs. The law is above all".

Moreover, the Congress also objected to the campaign election of BJP president saying that " he dragged forces".

"Our second complain is regarding Amit Shah for dragging forces into his election speech. We demand ban on amit shah for at least 72 hrs for campaigning".

Taking a dig at Election Commission, Abhishek Singhvi added:

"When it comes to few people who are at high position, Election commission hesitate to act" .

Earlier in the day, the Congress party informed a detailed explanation had been given to the Supreme Court, but it will not stop using 'Chowkidar Chor Hai' slogan, which is targetted at "Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his ministers for their alleged involvement in Rafale deal."

Talking to media persons here, Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said:

"The Supreme Court had asked for our explanation regarding the statement made by Rahul Gandhi in Amethi and Bihar. A very detailed and comprehensive explanation has been filed in the court in which we expressed regret for Rahul Gandhi's statement in which he had attributed 'Chowkidar Chor Hai' slogan to a court order."

"We have also made very clear in the explanation that we have no intention of stopping the 'Chowkidar Chor Hai' slogan, which is being used to target the Prime Minister and his ministers for their alleged involvement in Rafale scam," said Singhvi.

He also stated that it was not their intention to attribute the slogan as a decision by the Supreme Court and that the matter should be dropped as the BJP was trying to deliberately politicise the matter.

"It was never our intention to attribute this slogan as a finding or conclusion of the Supreme Court. I also requested the court to close this matter as the BJP is trying to deliberately politicise the matter in the context of ongoing elections," said Singhvi.

The Supreme Court has issued a formal contempt notice against Congress president Rahul Gandhi for claiming that the apex court said 'Chowkidar Chor Hai' while hearing the admissibility of some documents in Rafale row.
