Hours after Congress president Rahul Gandhi admitted via an affidavit submitted in the Supreme Court on Monday that his Rafale remarks wrongly attributed to the apex court came in 'the heat of a political campaigning' and expressed regret over the same, Congress' national spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said that the party is reiterating that 'there is only one thief'.

In his tweet, the Congress party media in-charge claimed that the BJP has misrepresented Rahul Gandhi's reply to the Supreme Court regarding the contempt of court proceedings. He also said that the BJP should not talk about the topic as it is sub-judice.

Here is Surjewala's tweet:

Earlier, BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi who filed the contempt petition said that she is satisfied to the extent that Rahul Gandhi's lie has been exposed. However she added that since the matter is in sub-judice she won't comment on the verdict.

"I will wait for Court's verdict as it is sub-judice. One thing is clear that Rahul Gandhi gave a false statement and tried to influence minds of voters. I will wait for the court to give their verdict. He stands exposed and the voters of the country should take cognisance of this. I am waiting to see how court deals with it, how court handles. What court does is between court and him, but I am waiting the court to act on this. It is for the judge to judge the case. I am satisfied to an extent that all I said that he has lied has been proven by his own admission," Lekhi said.

BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi had on April 12 moved the Supreme Court seeking initiation of contempt proceedings against Congress president Rahul Gandhi for attributing his remarks on the recent Rafale verdict to the apex court.

The Supreme Court on April 15, had issued a notice to the Congress President asking him to respond to the criminal contempt petition filed by BJP leader Meenakshi Lekhi, following his statement that Supreme Court said that Chowkidar is involved in a theft ('Supreme Court ne keh diya ki Chowkidar ne chori ki hai') while addressing the media after filing his nomination papers in Amethi.
