BJP's Bhopal candidate Sadhvi Pragya Thakur triggered yet another controversy on Thursday with her remarks about Mahatma Gandhi's assailant Nathuram Godse. Responding to the question of reporter on MNM chief Kamal Haasan's 'free India's first terrorist was a Hindu' remark in reference to Nathuram Godse, Sadhvi Pragya Thakur asserted that Gode will always remain a "Deshbhakt" (Patriot).

She went onto add that those who have termed Godse as a terrorist will get a reply from the people in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

"Nathuram Godse was, is and will remain a 'Deshbhakt'. People calling him a terrorist should instead look within, such people will be given a befitting reply in these elections," Sadhvi Pragya said.

On May 13, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief Kamal Haasan was addressing a rally wherein he said that free India's first terrorist was a Hindu, in reference to Mahatma Gandhi's assailant Nathuram Godse.

"I am not saying this because this is a Muslim-dominated area," Haasan prefaced his remarks, adding, "but I am saying this before a statue of Gandhi. Free India's first terrorist was a Hindu, his name is Nathuram Godse. There it began.".

Controversy broke on Kamal Haasan's remarks on Godse with BJP demanding apology from the actor-turned-politician. Rajya Sabha MP Prof Rakesh Sinha tweeted on the MNM chief's remarks, accusing him of targeting his remarks in order to win votes. Seeking an apology "for using terrorism for the Hindus", he wrote:

An FIR was registered by Aravakurichi police on Tuesday under Sections 153A and 295A of the Indian Penal Code against the MNM chief, dealing with 'outraging religious feelings' and 'promoting enmity between different groups' respectively.
