A nation-wide furor erupted after the Supreme Court's verdict to BJP's Youth wing leader Priyanka Sharma for sharing a meme of Mamata Banerjee on social media.

While there are reports stating that the Supreme Court called back Priyanka Sharma's lawyer to rollback the apology demand, Republic Media Network is confirming facts on the same. Updates will be provided accordingly.

However, giving out a verdict, the Supreme Court had categorically said that Priyanka Sharma is not an ordinary citizen but affiliated to a political party over granting a conditional bail.

However, author and columnist Advaita Kala taking a stand has said that it is something "excessive to expect an apology for sharing something that was in wide circulation"

She said, "You know I think one sitting on the outside should not determine or force any viewerism on somebody who's in jail. We have all seen memes, responded reacted and shared them. It is a normal part of everyday conversation, online conversation. Looking at the particular meme that was shared, I don't think there was anything vulgar about it, there was anything provocative in any sexual way or demeaning, it was inspired by the MET gala. I think this is something excessive to expect an apology for sharing something that was in wide circulation.

Furthermore she called out the 'absolutely despotic' chief minister of West Bengal.

She said, "You know forget memes, there are people being murdered during elections and none of these people have said anything because Mamata is the so-called saviour of democracy. Now I don't know where that definition comes from because she has been absolutely despotic, her father was violent, unruly, they had threatened Hindus in constituencies like Raiganj, two days ago in Diamond Harbour constituency Hindus were isolated. So I don't really don't know what saviour of democracy she is."

The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted conditional bail to West Bengal BJP functionary Priyanka Sharma who was arrested on May 10 for allegedly posting a morphed picture of state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Facebook.

"Subject to Priyanka Sharma tendering an apology in writing for putting up on objectionable picture on Facebook account, she shall be immediately released. At the time of release, she shall tender an apology in writing," a vacation bench comprising Justices Indira Banerjee and Sanjiv Khanna said in its order.
