Slamming the Congress for claiming to have done six surgical strikes during their UPA government era, PM Modi, on Friday, said that the Party was making tall claims about these surgical strikes which no one knew about while addressing a rally in Sikar, Rajasthan.
"After facing defeat in the first four phases, Congress has now started a new drama. Yesterday, a senior leader of Congress gave a statement saying that during the UPA government era, many surgical strikes were conducted. Now Congress will somehow prove that they had also performed surgical strikes. Yesterday, they(Congress) also got six dates claiming that they had done surgical strikes on those dates. Think, they are claiming six surgical strikes. What kind of strikes are these which neither the terrorists nor the ones killing them knew about? Does neither Pakistan nor India know about it? Did any of you know about it? Did you all ever read the word 'strike' during the UPA era?"
Explaining the strategy adopted by Congress to cash in on the surgical strike popularity, PM Modi said that they initially denied, then opposed and finally joined in saying 'Me too'.
"Now when the surgical strike had been announced, they(Congress) said that army does this on a regular basis, denying it. But because Indian people trusted me, they stood with me. At first, they (Congress) made fun of the surgical strikes. Once they saw the people's solidarity, they started opposing which made people increase their solidarity chanting Modi Modi. Seeing this trend, they (Congress) decided to use the new strategy saying we have also done surgical strike so that they can get 2-5% of the love that Modi has gained because of it (surgical strike). First, they denied, then they opposed then they said we also have done it saying Me too, Me too. Maybe Congress, which sits in AC rooms, can do strikes on paper."
He continued the attack by saying that the number of surgical strikes which have increased from three to six by the Congress, may increase further as they(Congress) think that surgical strike is done like a video game.
"I also read that another senior Congress leader said that Congress had done three surgical strikes. I feel, that such people, at any age play videogames. Maybe they are enjoying the surgical strikes like a videogame. As four phases of the election have passed, the amount of surgical strikes has also has increased from three to six and by the end of the elections they might say, we performed surgical strikes every day. After the results, they might say 600 strikes were done. When strikes have to be done on paper only, how does it matter to these liars (Congress)."
Earlier on Thursday, Congress party had said that there had been six surgical strikes during the tenure of Congress party between 2004-2014. Addressing a press conference in Congress' Delhi headquarters, Congress leader Rajiv Shukla said that during Congress tenure there were six surgical strikes and later put out a detail list about the same. He also added that there were four terrorists who were declared global terrorist by the United Nations security council during Congress tenure.
In 2018, responding to a video of the 2016 surgical strikes along the Line of Control that was accessed by Republic TV, the Congress lauded the bravery of the Indian armed forces and had said that India had conducted many such surgical strikes since 2000. Congress party's spokesperson had then given the same list of strikes and claimed that the BJP is using it for political gains.
