Omar Abdullah who is a vociferous critic of the BJP-led government in the Centre and of PM Narendra Modi sarcastically praised the Prime Minister.
Tweeting about PM Narendra Modi's allegation during his speech in Delhi's Ramlila Maidan on May 8 that former PM Rajiv Gandhi used the INS Viraat as a ferry for vacationing in Lakshadweep archipelago, the National Conference leader said:
"Gotta hand it to Modi ji, he has news channels chasing their tails about a 30 year old story instead of discussing the fudged GDP figures of the last couple of years."
The allegation by PM Modi had a huge impact, with veterans from the Indian forces confirming and criticising the former PM's alleged conduct.
Former Navy Commander VK Jaitly tweeted saying that Sonia and Rajiv Gandhi used Navy resources to celebrate their holidays.
Former Lieutenant Commander Harinder Sikka also spoke to Republic TV criticising the former Prime Minister's act.
"We were fuming that here is a Prime Minister, what kind of an example he is setting that he is bringing a foreigner on-board and focusing on all kinds of military equipment, show-casing our front-line ships, armaments, showing all kinds of weapon our aircraft is carrying. These aircraft were flown in front of her to showcase how an aircraft takes off and lands," he said.
