Despite the furor over the 'deaf and dumb Dalit' casteist remark hurled at President Ram Nath Kovind, Congress' Udit Raj has refused to knuckle under but furthermore has reiterated his stand over the same.
After Republic Media Network confronted the former BJP leader, he responded saying that BJP places "dumb and deaf Dalit" leaders in top positions.
He said, "Now what is the meaning of apology? I did not make a personal remark, I had said that BJP places the dumb and deaf Dalit leaders who don't raise their voice in the highest positions. In 2014 he had come on May 20, 2014 along with his biodata and the party did not even find him worthy enough to be a candidate."
Furthermore, he went on to say that the President is doing nothing despite being a 'dalit leader' and being lifted to that position due to reservation
"He is elevated to this position, because of reservation. Had there not been reservation, Ram Nath Kovind or I would not have reached and Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar gave us the reservation to fight for the society. While I was in the BJP, I raised issues that were worth raising. It's not a political vendetta and I'm a Dalit and any Dalit has a right to ask. He has been lifted to the position because of the provision of reservation, but what is the President doing?
The Congress leader further tweeted:
Even before this, on April 17, Congress' Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot insulting the highest office stated that Ram Nath Kovind was positioned as the President to 'fit in the caste factor', thus BJP veteran LK was left behind.
Having their blinders on, the bigwigs of the Congress leadership haven't acknowledged the issue yet, and maintained their silence.
Disgruntled BJP MP from northwest Delhi Udit Raj joined the Congress on Wednesday, a day after being denied ticket by the saffron party. On Tuesday, he had said the BJP might have decided to drop him for protesting against the apex court's order that nullified the stringent provisions of the Dalit protection law.
