Responding to Republic Bharat's sensational investigation which exposed the Congress party's farm loan waiver lie, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack at the Rahul Gandhi-led party. Addressing a rally in Karauli, Rajasthan, which is under the governance of senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot, PM Modi said that the farmers will not forgive the betrayal of the Congress party has given to them in the name of the 'loan waivers'.
Adding that the Congress party has lied to the farmers, PM Modi asserted that while the Central government has been asking for the list of farmers from the Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh governments, both have been hesitant in giving out the details.
"Congress must understand that my country can forgive a mistake, but they must also understand that my country, especially Rajasthan does not forgive betrayal. You(Congress) have betrayed them(farmers). You have lied. The situation is that Congress is seeing its disadvantage in the advantage of the farmers. The Central government is asking for the list of names from the state government in order to send money to their accounts. However, the Congress government here (Rajasthan) is hesitating (in giving the list)," the Prime Minister said.
Further, PM Modi asked the audience if it Congress party has not done injustice to the farmers.
"Is it not injustice to the people of Rajasthan? Is it not injustice? Is it not injustice? In order to put pressure on Congress and in order to stop the injustice, you must give your blessings to BJP in the Lok Sabha elections," he added.
In December 2018 during the Assembly elections campaigning, Congress president Rahul Gandhi has promised to waive of the loans of the farmers in only 10 days.
"Count till 10 after we come to power, 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10. And I am giving you a guarantee that within 10 days the loan of every Madhya Pradesh farmer," Rahul Gandhi had said.
However, even after 140 days, the promise is far from being kept. Republic Media Network's investigative team exposed the reality behind the fulfilment of the promise made to farmers which left a lot to be desired.
