Responding to the comment by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi that he was 'Bhrashtachari No 1',(corrupt number 1), Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee condemns the language and expressed her shock on the 'audacity of such a statement.'

Taking to Twitter, West Bengal Chief Minister Banerjee called PM Modi as 'expiry PM'. She also apologised for her delayed response on the matter as she was campaigning, therefore was late to respond. She added that 'Rajiv ji laid his life for the motherland' and she is shocked at the use of 'such language by PM Modi.'

On Saturday, Prime Minister Modi while addressing an election rally in Uttar Pradesh commented on Rajiv Gandhi while speaking about the corruption under the Congress governments.

"Your father was termed 'Mr. Clean' by his courtiers, but his life ended as 'Bhrashtachari No 1' (corrupt number 1). By hurling abuses, you cannot turn the 50 long years of Modi's Tapasya (struggle) into dust. By tarnishing my image and by making me look small, these people want to form an unstable and a weak government in the country " PM Modi said.
