Following the unprecedented decision by the Election Commission to cut short the poll campaigning by 24 hours in West Bengal, Opposition all around the country have come in support of Mamata Banerjee led Trinamool. CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury whose party was the main opposition to the Trinamool in 2014 general election as well as the assembly polls have also supported Banerjee. All the parties have unitedly called-out the Election Commission for their bias towards the BJP. In the same light, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti has called Mamata Banerjee a 'lioness' and applauded her 'strength to fight against the ruling party'.

Taking to Twitter on Thursday, Mehbooba said that Mamata Banerjee is speaking the 'language that the BJP understands'. She then went on to lend her support to Mayawati as well as Priyanka Gandhi and declared that 'this election is the watershed moment for women in Indian politics, that is entrenched in patriarchy'.

Moments ahead of applauding the women power, Mufti questioned the EC by asking if the EC was facilitating PM Modi's rallies. She also alleged that such 'brazen bias by EC that is a constitutional body proves it is subservient to the whims & fancies of BJP'.

Earlier on Wednesday evening while addressing a press conference after EC's order, Mamata Banerjee appealed the voters not to vote for the BJP.

"Don't give any vote to him (PM Modi). My sisters, brothers, young people, I request Modi ko Hatao (Remove Modi), Modi ko desh se nikal do election k through (Drag him out of the country through your votes). Don't vote for him. They(BJP) have slandered Bengal by breaking the statue of Vidyasagar and the Election Commission has given Narendra Modi and Amit Shah a prize after vandalising. Don't give one vote to the BJP."

On Wednesday evening, in an unprecedented move, EC invoked Article 324 and cuts short campaigning of all forms in West Bengal from 10 pm on Thursday, May 16, till the end of the polls on May 19. In the normal course, the campaigning was to end at 5 pm on May 17.

Jammu and Kashmir's National Conference chief Omar Abdullah also spoke in favour of Mufti saying that she will sweep the election despite all the hurdles.
