Priyanka Gandhi's admission that the Congress party fielding their candidates merely to cut the vote share of BJP fetched her flak from the ruling party, including Amethi's party candidate Smriti Irani.
Union Minister Smriti Irani has called the 'vote-cutter' comment of the AICC General Secretary of Uttar Pradesh East a clear acceptance of defeat, subsequently saying that it is impossible for them to cut BJP's vote.
She said, "Congress leader has publicly said that they are fighting election not to win but to cut into votes. This shows Congress has accepted it's defeat. Congress says will damage BJP that is not possible."
Earlier in the day, Priyanka Gandhi while sharing her strategy for not contending on the Varanasi's Lok Sabha seat, claimed that the only motive of the Congress party is to 'defeat BJP in 2019 elections'
She said, "Politics is not only for winning. My strategy is very clear we have to defeat BJP in 2019 elections. Congress will only cut the votes of BJP and not of the Ghathbandhan."
Rumours, questions and speculations were afloat amid the Parliamentary elections that Congress' star campaigner, and the younger Gandhi sibling would be contesting Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi constituency in fray with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
However, the speculations of her candidature were doused after the grand old party pitted Ajay Rai on the seat.
Opining over the statement, BJP's national spokesperson Dr Sambit Patra said that Congress has reduced from GOP (Grand Old Party to VKP (Vote-Katua-Party). In a press brief, Patra stated that the Congress party is motivated to lose with only one agenda, 'Modi Hatao'
"Today, GOP is equal to VKP. Congress used to call itself Grand Old Party, now it has become Vote-Katua-Party. It used to call itself the largest and oldest party of the country, which now has reduced to Vote-katua-party. Congress' general secretary Priyanka Vadra has accepted it. We are noticing how Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is accepting that Congress party is not fighting to win, but it is fighting to cut the votes. It is now clear that Congress party has lost in the elections, since it is not fighting to win. Priyanka Gandhi earlier also said that they are preparing for 2022. She has accepted that losing their aim and not winning, with only one aim 'Modi Hatao'," the BJP candidate from Odisha's Puri constituency said during the press briefing.
Meanwhile, the Priyanka Gandhi is campaigning around Uttar Pradesh.
