Days after actor Sunny Deol joined the BJP and was announced as a candidate from the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha constituency of Punjab, he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday.

Following the meeting, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a picture on Twitter saying that he was impressed with Deol's passion for a better India. He also expressed confidence for his victory in Gurdaspur. However, what caught everyone's attention was a punch line referring to Deol's 2001 blockbuster 'Gadar: Ek Prem Katha'.

The Prime Minister wrote: "Hindustan Zindabad tha, hai, aur rahega" (India hailed, hails and will hail)

During his induction in the party, Deol said expressed his pleasure in associating with PM Modi:

"The way my father had worked with A B Vajpayee, I am here to work with Modi ji. He has done a lot for the country. The way has brought us ahead, we need to continue moving forward even today. Because of the struggle we are facing we need people like Modi ji. I won't speak much, I will allow my work to do the talking."

There have been several references to Deol's patriotic movies since the time he has joined the BJP.  Director of 'Gadar: Ek Prem Katha' Anil Sharma was the first one to congratulate him after his induction.

Earlier, while campaigning for Lok Sabha candidate Kailash Choudhary in Rajasthan's Barmer, the crowd shouted the same "Hindustan Zindabad tha, zindabad hai, zindabad rahega" dialogue.

While Union Minister Piyush Goyal urged him to give a 'dhai kilo ka speech' during the induction, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman used a 'Border' reference to welcome him.
