After Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool complained to the Election Commission over PM Narendra Modi's Kedarnath visit, now Congress' president Rahul Gandhi and senior leader Chidambaram have both slammed the Election Commission accusing them favouring the BJP during the Lok Sabha elections.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a glimpse of his journey to the Himalayan shrines. He also consulted and reviewed the redevelopment projects of the Kedar valley after 2013 floods.
In a tweet, Rahul Gandhi complained about a list of things he thought the poll body should have paid attention to and taken action.
"From Electoral Bonds & EVMs to manipulating the election schedule, NaMo TV, “Modi’s Army” & now the drama in Kedarnath; the Election Commission’s capitulation before Mr Modi and his gang is obvious to all Indians. The EC used to be feared & respected. Not anymore," he said.
P Chidambaram also said that the poll boy has lost its independence and authority.
"Polling is over. Now we can say that the 'pilgrimage' of the PM in the last two days is an unacceptable use of religion and religious symbols to influence the voting. Our charge had been that the EC was sleeping on the job. Now, we can go further and say that the EC completely surrendered its independence and authority. Shame!," he said.
