Union Minister Sushma Swaraj expressed how Rahul Gandhi's 'joota' comment over BJP patron LK Advani's have 'hurt' them, and asked the Congress president to maintain 'decorum'

In a tweet, Swaraj told the Gandhi scion that Advani is their 'father figure', to his comment where he stated that 'student' PM Modi has hit his 'teacher' with a 'shoe' and kicked him out of the stage.

This statement was uttered after BJP's decision to field party president Amit Shah from Adavni's bastion seat, Gandhinagar, in Gujarat, to contest the ensuing Lok Sabha elections. The veteran was dropped from the seat, who had won six times from the constituency in the past.

Rahul Gandhi addressing a rally in Maharashtra on Friday said, "We call it the relationship of a teacher-student. Who's Modi ji's guru? Advani ji. The student (PM Modi) does not even fold his hands in front of the teacher (LK Advani). He threw him out of the stage. He hit Advani ji with a shoe and threw him out of the stage and then he talks about Hindu religion. Where is it written in the Hindu religion that you should hit people?"

Earlier, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee also expressed discontent on the development saying that LK Advani is one of the 'pillars of the BJP' and leaving him out of its candidate's list is an 'insult' to the veteran leader.

"(Atal Bihari) Vajpayee ji, Advani-ji were the pillars of the BJP. Advani-ji is a senior man. And now how he has been left out. This is, of course, an insult to Advani-ji," Mamata Banerjee had said.

On March 21, BJP's first list was released that included the first 184 candidates for the Lok Sabha polls 2019, that claimed Amit Shah's debut candidacy from the Gandhinagar constituency, thus affirming that BJP veteran will not be contending the Lok Sabha elections, putting an end to his 2-decade long run as a the constituency's MP.

LK Advani, tantamount to being one of the BJP's founding fathers, is the current Member of Parliament from Gandhinagar, and has been the MP from the constituency for the last five terms.
