Days after Shatrughan Sinha formally joined Congress, his wife Poonam Sinha on Tuesday joined the Samajwadi Party in presence of SP chief's wife Dimple Yadav at Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh. In a much talked about event in the first week of March, Shatrughan Sinha joined Congress and said that he has taken the decision in 'hosh' and not 'josh'.
Minutes after Poonam Sinha joined the SP, the party which is in alliance with the Mayawati-led BSP and Ajit Singh's RLD has announced that she will be contesting against Union Minister Rajnath Singh from the Lucknow constituency of Uttar Pradesh. She will be representing the gathbandhan and SP has also appealed the Congress to note field any candidate from Lucknow.
While Poonam Sinha will be against a Union leader, Shatrughan himself will be contesting against Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad from Bihar's Patna Sahib constituency.
After dumping his mother-party, the BJP, from where the political career of Shatrughan began, he said: "When I came to the party I believed that this would be my first and last party. But, I realised with time things have changed. Things changed from 'lokshahi' (Democracy) to 'tanashahi' (dictatorship)."
In 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, SP's Abhishek Mishra and BSP's Nakul Dubey was third and fourth in the fray while INC's Rita Bahuguna was defeated by a large margin by BJP's Rajnath Singh in Lucknow.
