'Triple Talaq Deserves Criminalisation While Sabarimala Requires Constitutional Protection?,' Asks Asaduddin Owaisi Attacking BJP's Manifesto Over 'faith'

Accompanying political parties and politicians who have raised speculations and censured the BJP's Lok Sabha 2019 manifesto, AIMIM's Asaduddin Owaisi  has condemned the section of 'Triple Talaq' and 'Sabarimala'. 

Following Congress, NC and PDP's unsettling positions on abrogation of Article 37 and Article 35A of Jammu and Kashmir, Owaisi has now expressed his reservations over the criminalisation of Triple Talaq. 

Included under the 'Women Empowerment' section, ensuring 'equal rights'. BJP claimed that they have taken 'sustantive measures' to promote gender equality.

The manifesto read: "We have determinedly taken sustantive measures to ensure overall development of women and promote gender equality. Continuing our work, we will legislate a bill to prohobit and eliminate practises such as Triple Talaq and Nikah Halala."

Lashing out at Prime Minister Modi and BJP president Amit Shah,  censuring the manifesto in a tweet Owaisi contrasted the issue of Sabarimala and Triple Talaq, adding a communal tint through the comparison, citing 'faith'  

He said, "Their party believes that even an accusation of Triple Talaq deserves criminalisation, while Sabarimala requires 'constitutional protection' because it is astha (faith)'

Within the 'Cultural Heritage' section, the manifesto has embraced the case of Sabarimala, where the party has stated that they will "undertake every effort to ensure that the subject of faith, tradition and worship rituals related to Sabarimala are presented in a comprehensive manner before the Supreme Court," and further added that they will "secure constitutional protection" on issues related to faith and belief. 

The party has even reiterated their stance on Ram Mandir case, stating to consider all possibilities within the framwork of the Constitution for the construction of the temple in Ayodhya. 

BJP-led NDA during their current tenure brought the Triple Talaq ordinance and later brought the bill, which got passed in the Lok Sabha however was stalled in the Rajya Sabha. Following this, in February 19 the cabinet gave its nod to re-issuing of the contentious triple talaq ordinance.

The bill on Triple Talaq is set to lapse with the dissolution of the present Lok Sabha on June 3. The ordinance has been reissued for the third time in less then a year.

Opposition parties and some community leaders have claimed that jail term for a man for divorcing his wife is legally untenable. The government has asserted that it provides justice and equality to Muslim women.
