As a massive controversy hit Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party, one day before Lok Sabha elections in Delhi, social activist Anna Hazare expressed his grief and criticised Kejriwal who was part of 2011 anti-corruption movement in which Hazare a hunger strike at the Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
On Saturday, in a huge embarrassment for AAP, massive controversy hit the party when the son of Balbir Jakhar, AAP's West Delhi candidate made a sensational charge of 'cash for ticket' against the party.
Hazare said: "Power and money can make people do anything. Earlier (during anti-corruption movement) he (Arvind Kejriwal) used to say that he will not take salary, now he is taking more money than rest of the parties. Honesty is honesty. For power and money, why are they leaving their honesty. His mind has distracted since he got power. Earlier, I used to quote his good behaviour and good points that he had, but since he got power, he lost his honesty. I didn't know that the CM's chair will do this to him. In Lokpal andolan, he sat with me, but later when I sat for strikes, he did not even come once to see what is happening or where is it. There was a time when he used to say that 'Anna is my guru', but now he has turned out to be like this, I am really sad because of this. Since he became CM, we never talked, his and mine roads are different now. He took a bungalow, a car. All this is not right. One should never change ones word."
The cash for ticket controversy broke when Jakhar's son Uday on Saturday spoke to Republic Media Network about the bribery. He said that his father told him months ago that he has paid Rs 6 crores for the ticket to contest in the polls. He also said that his father tried to bail out former Congress leader and 1984 anti-Sikh riots accused Sajjan Kumar.
"I had to make my conscious clear. A person who has aligned himself with someone like Sajjan Kumar should have no place in the Parliament. The biggest proof of the 'allegation' is me. I may have some serious risk to my life for making the charge. I have made two accusations against my father. My father told directly that months ago he himself paid Rs 6 crores to Kejriwal. Second is that someone like Kejriwal, who himself was in the IRS has himself dissolved into corruption. The other factor which angered me is that he got a lot of money from Sajjan Kumar to represent him, to bail him out," Uday said.
Earlier, AAP and BJP were involved in a controversy over derogatory pamphlet against AAP's East Delhi candidate Atishi Marlena. Marlena accused fellow BJP candidate Gautam Gambhir was distributing them in the constituency. However, Gambhir declared that he will hang himself if found guilty.
