The BJP announced its first list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections which will be held from April 11, 2019 to May 19, 2019. The party has decided to field Smriti Irani from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.
Irani tweeted about contesting from Amethi and thanked BJP for the opportunity.
Irani wil be in direct contest against Rahul Gandhi who will be fighting from the same seat for Congress.
The contest will grab eyeballs as the seat has traditionally been a Congress bastion.
Irani spoke about the keenly watched fight between two heavy weights from the national parties to Republic Media Network about who will win the polls in AMethi.
"Since the last five years we have been working for the development of the people. In the Vidhan Sabha polls, 4 out of 5 seats were won by BJP because the people were impacted by our work and even the fifth seat was not won by Congress. The defeat of Congress is a certainity.
Irani also spoke about campaigning for the seat.
"I have worked for Amehthi despite losing, PM Modi had said that we had worked for those who had voted for us and those who did not, so our campaign had started long ago," she said.
The BJP list, which has been released after two consecutive days of BJP top-brass meetings at the party's headquarters in New Delhi which were attended by PM Modi, comprises 182 (184 - revised) candidates from a number of states, including key contenders such as the Prime Minister, himself, Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari and Rajnath Singh.
