After Congress' Priyanka Chaturvedi quit the party over the reinstatement of those who had misbehaved with her, Jyotiraditya Scindia, who is the Congress' Uttar Pradesh West general secretary Jyotiraditya Scindia's justified the decision to allow those who were involved in the incident to rejoin the party.

Scindia on Friday attempted to shift the blame saying that the incident had taken place before he took charge of his current post in January 2019.

"Priyanka Chaturvedi was an excellent spokesperson and I wish her the best. The incident happened in August last year. I got the charge in January. The present candidates said they needed those people who had misbehaved with her for their work. I asked those who were involved in the incident to apologise to her in a written manner. After they apologised, we allowed them to rejoin the party. I allowed them to join as they had apologised and because the present candidates needed them. I have taken a promise from them that they will not repeat the behaviour and if they do the party's door's will be closed for them forever," he said.

In a tweet on April 17, she had lashed out at the Congress party, expressing discontent over the unfair treatment that she received by the grand old party, accusing it of 'inaction'. In the tweet, she shared how the 'lumpen goons' get more preference in the party than those who have given their 'sweat and blood'.

In a letter dated April 18 to Congress president Rahul Gandhi, she tendered her resignation from the party.

"What saddens me is the despite the safety, dignity, empowerment of women being promoted by the party and has been your call to action the same is not reflected in the action of some of the members of the party. A serious incident and misbehaviour against me by certain party members, while I was on official duty for the party, has been ignored under the guise of all hands needed for elections," she wrote in her resignation.
