Responding on the massive development on the contempt plea against Rahul Gandhi wherein he admitted in the Supreme Court that he made the statements over his allegations in the Rafale case in the “heat of political campaigning”, BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi, who filed the complaint said that she is satisfied to the extent that Rahul Gandhi's lie has been exposed.
Speaking to Republic TV minutes after Rahul Gandhi said in the apex court that he gave the Rafale comment in 'the heat of the political campaigning' and expressed regret for the same, Lekhi said:
"I will wait for Court's verdict as it is sub-judice. One thing is clear that Rahul Gandhi gave a false statement and tried to influence minds of voters. I will wait for the court to give their verdict. He stands exposed and the voters of the country should take cognisance of this. I am waiting to see how court deals with it, how court handles. What court does is between court and him, but I am waiting the court to act on this. It is for the judge to judge the case. I am satisfied to an extent that all I said that he has lied has been proven by his own admission."
BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi had on April 12 moved the Supreme Court seeking initiation of contempt proceeding against Congress president Rahul Gandhi for attributing his remarks on the recent Rafale verdict to the apex court.
The Supreme Court on April 15, had issued a notice to the Congress President asking him to respond to the criminal contempt petition filed by BJP leader Meenakshi Lekhi, following his statement that Supreme Court said that Chowkidar is involved in a theft ( Supreme Court ne keh diya ki Chowkidar ne chori ke hai) while adressing the media after filing the nomination papers in Amethi.
Speaking in the matter earlier, Meenakshi Lekhi had slammed Rahul Gandhi, claiming contempt of the top court, for attributing to the Supreme Court what it had never said in its order on the Rafale deal order of April 10.
"All the statements that are coming in the public through media recording and publications, we have annexed all of that. Repeatedly an attempt has been made by Rahul Gandhi to replace to own words as court's verdict. It this is not contempt, that too a criminal contempt of court, then what else will be. That is misquoting, misrepresenting the facts in public and making allegations and accusations about the Supreme Court order and it is for this reason the contempt has been filed," Meenakshi Lekhi had said.
