Over a year after actor Kamal Haasan officially entered politics with his Makkal Needhi Maiam, he has announced an alliance with Mamata Banerjee's TMC for Andaman and Nicobar islands after meeting the TMC president Mamata Banerjee on Monday. He also informed that he will be campaigning for TMC candidate in Andaman on 6th of April.
While addressing a press briefing in Kolkata, MNM chief Kamal Haasan said:
"The meeting was excellent. We are now proud to say that MNM is in alliance with the TMC for Andaman. And we hope this special relationship evolves. I am just going to campaign for their candidate in Andaman and I am going there on the 6th of April".
When asked whether he will also campaign for TMC in the state of West Bengal, the actor-turned-politician said that he will focus on Tamil Nadu but would 'consider' the option.
"I will consider campaigning for TMC in West Bengal but you see I have my hands full in Tamil Nadu. This is my first tme. I have come here to take best wishes for my political journey".
When questioned whether he will join Mahagathbandhan, the MNM chief said that he will 'think about it step-by-step':
"Right now the focus is on Andaman. I have a small regional party and I will focus on my region. I love West Bengal and Kerala, so we will think about it step by step".
Earlier in the day, Makkal Needhi Maiam chief Kamal Haasan upon his arrival to Kolkata for a 'political' meet with the chief minister Mamata Banerjee had refused to elaborate on the nature of the meeting but consolidated that his party would campaign for the TMC supremo.
He said, "My party will campaign for her and I will talk to her about that."
The actor-turned-politician shared of his 'old relationship' with TMC supremo and said that he is here to seek 'best wishes' from her.
Haasan on Sunday had announced that he would not contest in either of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls or the Tamil Nadu bypolls which will be held along with the General elections.
