WATCH: Navjot Singh Sidhu's Convoy 'gheraoed' And Pelted With Tomatoes By Alleged BJP Workers On His Way To Amethi, Uttar Pradesh

Days after Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu stoke controversy by his elitist remark on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his convoy was attacked with tomatoes while he was on his way to campaign in Congress bastion of Amethi. On Friday, Sidhu who is in the list of star campaigner of the Congress party campaigned for party chief Rahul Gandhi who is contesting against Union Minister and BJP candidate Smriti Irani. However, his convoy was hurled with tomatoes as he was heading towards the destination.

The video that has been accessed by Republic TV shows people throwing tomatoes and pamphlets on the Congress leader's convoy while he was on his way to Amethi in Uttar Pradesh. Men surrounding the convoy were shouting slogans of "Sidhu go back" and "Pakistan vapas jao."

Sidhu has been in controversy since the election campaigning began. Earlier, Sidhu made a Mulsim vote appeal in Bihar's Katihar district.  On April 29, he  wrote insult-laden tweet by saying that one vote can make your children a 'chaiwala' , 'pakorawala', or a 'chowkidar'. So one must think and then vote.

On the same day, addressing a rally in Sonia Gandhi's bastion Rae Bareli, Sidhu launched an attack at the Prime Minister alleging that she has become a puppet run by industrialists. 

"You talk about nationalism? You learn about nationalism from Sonia Gandhi. What nationalism you are talking about. You are a sellout. You are a puppet run by industrialists. You don't see development Narendra Damodardas Modi, because your intentions are wrong," Sidhu while addressing a rally in Rae Bareli. 

Later, the Congress's star campaigner claimed that he will quit politics if Rahul Gandhi loses in the Lok Sabha elections 2019, terming Congress' General secretary Priyanka Gandhi as his 'Bigg Boss'. 

"If Rahul bhai loses, I will quit politics. If Modi comes back to power, the nation will wipe out. I have to urge to make Rahul bhai, Priyanka ji my Bigg Boss and Sonia ji a part of your life and then see how this country will flourish."
