Smriti Irani on Thursday spoke to Republic Media Network about her campaigning in Amethi as well as Rahul Gandhi deciding to contest from Wayanad, Kerala apart from his family bastion.

She spoke amidst her campaign rally in the constituency where she will fight against the Congress president.

"I think he is in Wayanad because he did not receive support in Amethi. Nobody runs from victory, people run away from defeat... If India wants to see the capability of Rahul Gandhi they should come to Amethi and see the way he has left the place in distress," she said.

On Gandhi's prospects in Wayanad, she said, "Priyanka has asked people of Wayanad to take care of him. If they are asking to take care of him then does it mean that are they winning or losing."

She also slammed Congress for not developing Amethi.

"If even after ruling Amethi for 55 years the Gandhi family could not provide for roads, electricity, water then Rahul Gandhi, this is an insult of the people and Congress are facing a test," she said.

He also hit out at Rahul Gandhi on the Republic Media Network's newsbreak about his links with alleged scamsters from the UPA-era

"I am surprised. Did they think the law will not conduct an investigation... the documents showing links with scam-accused are found, first in land deals, then with those 2G scam, they take money through property. People used to think it was only Jija (Robert Vadra) sahab who was involved in scams, now we know that jija-saale (Robert Vadra and Rahul Gandhi) have colluded," she said.

Irani also took on Gandhi during her rally.

Terming herself 'didi' (elder sister), Irani told a gathering in Parsadepur, "This is a coincidence, indication of God that 'didi' arrived here and the missing MP reached Kerala. I have come to take (people's) blessings and he (Rahul) rejected the blessings."

Referring to excessive heat, Irani said, "Today there is rise in temperature. But it had already risen in 2017 when the BJP won in four assembly segments of Amethi Lok Sabha constituency and in another segment (won by SP) the Congress could not win."
