Minutes after Congress president Rahul Gandhi admitted via an affidavit submitted in the Supreme Court on Monday that his Rafale remarks wrongly attributed to the apex court came in 'the heat of a political campaigning' and expressed regret over the same, he used the 'Chowkidar Chor hai' jibe again while addressing party workers in Amethi.

Addressing Congress workers in Amethi, Rahul Gandhi said : "Narendra Modi comes and tells lies - 15 lakh, 2 crore, employment to the farmers and then does the work of Anil Ambani. He is not your Chowkidar. Have you ever seen a chowkidar in front of a farmer's house? Have you ever seen a chowkidar in front of labourer's house? Is there a chowkidar in front of unemployed people's home ? But have you seen Chowkidar in front of Anil Ambani's home? Yes. They are chowkidar and 'chowkidar chor hai (chowkidar is thief).

BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi had on April 12 moved the Supreme Court seeking initiation of contempt proceeding against Congress president Rahul Gandhi for attributing his remarks on the recent Rafale verdict to the apex court.

The Supreme Court on April 15, had issued a notice to the Congress President asking him to respond to the criminal contempt petition filed by BJP leader Meenakshi Lekhi, following his statement that Supreme Court said that Chowkidar is involved in a theft ( Supreme Court ne keh diya ki Chowkidar ne chori ke hai) while adressing the media after filing the nomination papers in Amethi.

Responding on Rahul Gandhi's admission in the Supreme Court that he made the statements over his allegations in the Rafale case in the “heat of political campaigning”, BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi, who filed the complaint said that she is satisfied to the extent that Rahul Gandhi's lie has been exposed.

"I will wait for Court's verdict as it is sub-judice. One thing is clear that Rahul Gandhi gave a false statement and tried to influence minds of voters. I will wait for the court to give their verdict. He stands exposed and the voters of the country should take cognisance of this. I am waiting to see how court deals with it, how court handles. What court does is between court and him, but I am waiting the court to act on this. It is for the judge to judge the case. I am satisfied to an extent that all I said that he has lied has been proven by his own admission," Lekhi said.
