With the BJP and its allies inching closer to victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Republic Media Network spoke to BJP's National General Secretary Ram Madhav.
Ram Madhav said that people of India had decided that PM Narendra Modi must be made the victor in the polls. He added that this was the primary factor leading to people's win.
"This is a campaign led by the people of the country for Modiji. Other factors are secondary. The people decided that they wanted to make PM Modi win and defeat everyone else." Madhav said.
He said jokingly about taking over New Delhi's Khan Market following BJP's victory. "The colour of Khan Market will change. We will take over it by evening," he said, referring to PM Modi's reference to the 'Khan Market club' during campaigning.
He also said that the 'Lutyens media' will come up with illogical reasoning behind PM Modi and BJP's victory. "They will analyse the results the way Trump's victory in 2016 was analysed by the Lutyen types in America. They had said if there were fewer people with blood pressure in Michigan, fewer drunkards in Pennyslvania, Trump would be defeated," he said.
The counting of votes began at 8 am on May 23 in each of the 542 constituencies (the Vellore Lok Sabha polls had been countermanded).
With high-pitched and intense election campaigning, the 2019 polls spanned seven phases across two months, ended on May 19, witnessing the Election Commission handling 22.3 lakh ballot units, 17.3 lakh VVPATs and 16.3 lakh control units. An estimated 67.11 percent voters turned up to cast their votes in this year's elections, which is among the highest-ever turnouts recorded in any parliamentary poll in India since its Independence.
