A day ahead of the fifth Lok Sabha phase, the two national parties, BJP and Congress locked horns yet again over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Rajiv Gandhi's life ended as corrupt no 1" comment in Uttar Pradesh.
Subsequent to the Congress party's stern criticism, Union Minister Arun Jaitley in a social media post came in defence of Prime Minister Modi, speaks against the 'economist turned politician' Dr. Manmohan Singh and the dynast
The Union Minister accused the former UPA Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh of leaving back an 'economic slowdown, policy paralysis and corruption' in 2014
Furthermore, accused the former Prime Minister of citing the 'World's fastest growing major economy' as disastrous
From calling it 'so low' to 'shockingly insulting', an irked Congress party in the sternest voice has reprimanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of slandering the former late Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi.
Condemning the comment, senior Congress leader Sheila Dikshit stated that PM Modi has "lowered his own image," moreover demanded an apology from him.
She said, "Prime Minister has lowered his own image. As a Prime Minister should he use such language or not? This is such a question mark that being a Prime Minister, you're speaking of another Prime Minister, that should not be said. The Congress party highly condemns this comment by Modiji. The party expects Prime Minister Modi to apologise for this.
Former Union Minister Anand Sharma reminded PM Modi that former PM Rajiv Gandhi was 'assassinated by a terrorist'. Further accusing the Prime Minister of dragging 'political discourse to a gutter'
He said, "He is known for making shockingly insulting statements about his opponents, but Rajiv Gandhiji was a martyred PM of this country, Narendra Modi should not forget that Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by a terrorist and he died for the cause of India. Narendra Modi will go down in history, as the only Prime Minister since India's independence who has dragged the political discourse to a gutter."
Both Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi called out PM Modi over his statement against their father.
