Taking cognisance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech in Kathua on Jallianwala Bagh, Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh retaliated accusing the prime minister of using a 'somber occasion to play dirty politics' instead of supporting Punjab's government's request to host the event.

In an election rally in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua, Prime Minister Modi accused chief minister, Captain Amarinder Singh of 'boyotting', the official government program that paid homage to Jallianwala Bagh massacre martyrs on its 100th year, instead,  being involved in 'Gandhi family devotion'

He said, "Yesterday, the vice president visited the government official program to pay homage to Jallianwala Bagh martyrs. But the Congress Chief Minister was missing in his program. He boycotted the program because he was involved in the devotion of the Congress family. He went to Jallianwala Bagh with the Congress ' Naumdar."

"But to go with the Vice-President in the Government of India's official program, he did not understand. This is the difference between nation's devotion and family devotion," PM added.

PM Modi further accused the chief minister of succumbing to the 'family pressure' of the Gandhi.

He said, "I have known Captain Amarinder Singh for years. I can understand how they were pressurised for this family devotion. The Captain also fell in front of the kind of stakes that are being put out in Punjab."

Speaking over the accusation of 'nation's devotion and family devotion' jibe, Captain claimed that it was the government's decision to hold 'parallel event', rather that supporting the Punjab government which have been requesting the Centre for two years.

His tweet read, "Shocked by your remarks in Kathua on Jallianwala Bagh PM Narendra Modi ji. You used a somber occasion to play dirty politics, conveniently ignoring your own government’s decision to hold a parallel event instead of extending support to my govt, which we'd been requesting for 2 years."
