Lok Sabha elections 2019: 'Vote for peace, progress, communal harmony', appeals Omar Abdullah as J&K goes to polls

As the country goes to polls in the first phase of 2019 Lok Sabha elections, NC leader Omar Abdullah in a message to voters is persuading them to vote against 'communalism, fear and broken promises' and in a series of tweets urged the voters to exercise their role in the largest democracy.

As the country goes to polls in the first phase of 2019 Lok Sabha elections, NC leader Omar Abdullah in a message to voters is persuading them to vote against 'communalism, fear and broken promises' and in a series of tweets urged the voters to exercise their role in the largest democracy.   

The former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir in a series of tweets asked voters in Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipore, Rajouri, Poonch districts to cast their votes, saying that it is an opportunity to choose a representative who will 'espouse' their causes and 'fight their fights' in the Parliament. 

The Abdullah scion also asked the youth to vote against the 'BJP and its proxy parties' and for 'peace, progress, and communal harmony'

He tweeted: 

While voters in the state could be seen coming out in masses and queuing outside polling booths in Jammu and Kashmir, here are the voters turn out as of 9 a.m:

Jammu Constituency

Jammu            14.12%

Samba            16.52%

Rajouri            11.88%

Poonch            12.98%

Baramulla Constituency

Baramulla        5.80%

Kupwara        7.98%

Bandipora        5.97%

Migrants        10.24%

The overall poll percentage in the state is 11.43%.

Polling will be held in 91 out of 543 Lok Sabha constituencies spread over 20 states and Union Territories in the first phase on Thursday and the polls will see seats from where high profile candidates (including Union Ministers) are fighting.

Nitin Gadkari, Kiren Rijiju, VK Singh, Mahesh Sharma, Hansraj Ahir, Agatha Sangma, Mukul Sangma, Harish Rawat, Ajay Tamta, Jayant Chaudhary, Satyapal Singh, Nabam Tuki, Renuka Chowdary, Nama Nageswara Rao, Chirag Paswan, Asaduddin Owaisi are some of the key canidates contesting polls during Phase I.
