  • The National Conference leader, while addressing a rally accused the PDP chief of shedding tears for political gains and is a plot to secure votes after the BJP coalition was torn apart.

With the elections looming ever so close, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah has censured PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti of shedding 'crocodile tears'

He said, "The crocodile tears that we see today, they are not the tears of the heart but of the mind. Because you don't put a thought in the tears of the heart when you feel regret the tears start flowing involuntarily."

The National Conference leader, while addressing a rally accused the PDP chief of shedding tears for political gains and is a plot to secure votes after the break-up of an alliance with BJP.

He said, "I wish we saw these tears in 2016, I would have said these tears are of the heart, of regret, and of compassion. But we did not witness these tears in 2016, or even in 2017 and neither did we see these tears in 2018 until Eid and Ramazan. These tears started when BJP pulled back its support,"

The Abdullah scion further said that her fake tears were after she lost the chief minister seat of Jammu and Kashmir before the state came under the Presidential rule.

He said, "The chief ministerial position was lost from here and there the tears started flowing again. That's why I said these are not the tears of the heart but of the mind, and you pay for the tears of the mind. The tears of the heart, are priceless and Mehbooba Mufti wants people to pay for her tears of the mind. From here tears would be flowing and from there people would vote, that is her expectation."

A week earlier Abdullah launched a similar attack on Mufti, mentioning that PDP chief's reality was exposed in 2015, indicating her party forming an alliance with the BJP to form the government in J&K.

"We have seen their reality in 2015 and 2018. We thought the tears in her eyes were real. Those were the tears of regret and pain. But after 2015, we realised the tears were for power. The tears don't come out of her heart, but from her mind......" he added.

National Conference president and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah on March 17 declared that NC leader Omar Abdullah will contest the Assembly election and run for the post of Chief Minister. Addressing a public meeting asking people to vote for party candidate B R Kundal in Jammu-Poonch parliamentary constituency, he said that he will fight the Lok Sabha polls and is confident of winning it.

It was in June, following the Ramzan ceasefire, that the BJP had pulled out of the PDP-led Jammu and Kashmir government that had been in power in the state since 2015, initially under the Chief Ministership of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, and following his demise in January 2016, his daughter Mehbooba Mufti.
