Republic TV had reported extensively about the break-up within the Congress owing to several MLAs hiding out in Mumbai and planning to switch to the BJP. Umesh Jadhav was among those rebel MLAs and later on joined the Congress. Jadhav tendered his resignation on March 4 to Assembly Speaker Ramesh Kumar and joined the BJP on March 6.

Jadhav was upset with Congress against the alleged dominance by veteran party leader Kharge and his son Priyank Kharge in the region.
