The remarks by Congress leader Siddaramaiah has not gone down well with the party leadership, and the Congress high command is known to be upset with the former Karnataka Chief Minister over the CM clamour in the state.
Congress' K. C. Venugopal in a meeting at the Hubballi Airport on Sunday evening told the JD(S) leadership that there are negative statements coming from both ends and the impact of the bickering will be seen on the alliance of the two party in Karnataka by-polls and Congress' relationship with the ally and prospective allyies across the country.
Over the last few days, Congress leaders and sitting MPs of Karnataka of the Siddaramaiah camp have gone to say that they wish to see him on the Chief Ministerial chair once again. However this has obviously displeased their Karnataka ally, JD(S), wherein the state Chief Miniser and chief Adagur H. Vishwanath have taken strong objections to that.
In view of this, the Congress in-charge of Karnataka, K. C. Venugopal held a meeting with the alliance leaders, informing the JD(S) that the Congress High Command is keeping a note of the developments of the state, despite the on-going Parliamentary elections across the country.
The cracked in the coalition emerged as former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, on Monday expressed his disapproval of JD(S) Karnataka Chief Adagur H. Vishwanath by saying that his (Siddaramaiah) mouth is shut as they (Congress) are tied to the alliance in the state with the Deve Gowda-led JD(S).
His tweet read: My mouth is sealed due to the coalition government's alliance. I will not respond to the irresponsible statements of H V Vishwanath in detail. Vishwanath is notoriously famous for such mischievous statements. Let them have a good understanding of the Lord.
He also pulled Vishwanath for his comments saying these will be addressed in the Coordination Committee meeting and slammed other JD(S) leaders for making such irresponsible comments.
His tweet read: JD(S) president H.Vishwanath will address the hate speech in the Coordination Committee meeting. GT Deve Gowda, now Vishwanath ... who does not know before. JD(S) chiefs should focus on such irresponsible statements targeting me.
H V Vishwanath who joined the JD(S) in 2017, has worked under the leadership of Siddaramaiah when he was a part of the JD(S). Vishwanath has allegedly criticized the Congress party time and again and allegedly made statements that Siddaramaiah was not a popular choice for Chief Minister reportedly adding that one should not pay heed to his words.
While Siddaramaiah quit JD(S) after differences with its party president and former Indian Prime Minister Deve Gowda in 2005, Vishwanath reportedly a close aide the Gowda family and his statements are allegedly made in confidence of Deve Gowda himself.
The Karnataka alliance has been faltering ever since the reports that came in last Tuesday Karnataka Home Minister and Congress Leader, M B Patil, on Tuesday has hinted that Congress Leader Siddaramaiah should take over the Chief Minister post again. Speaking exclusively to Republic TV, Patil said that 'while Kumaraswamy is the CM for five years, Siddaramaiah deserves to be CM again.'
However, later on Wednesday the Siddaramaiah himself ruled out the possibility of any change in the top post held by H D Kumaraswamy of the JD(S).
"They (Congress men) are expressing their opinion, but is it possible now? The seat is not vacant now, Kumaraswamy is chief minister. How can I become the CM?" Siddaramaiah told reporters in Hubballi.
While the Congress and JD(S) coalition, which won 117 seats combined, is currently in power in the Karnataka State Assembly managing a slim margin over the BJP's 104 seats, they have entered a seat-sharing pact for the Lok Sabha elections. Congress contested from 20 seats while JD(S) contested for the remaining 8 seats in phase 2 and 3 on April 18 and April 23 respectively.
