After HD Kumaraswamy had another break down in front of the media at an event complaining about the coalition compulsions, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale speaking to Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami stated that it is the responsibility of the JDS chief and former PM Deve Gowda to support PM Narendra Modi.

He said, "No then why is he crying now, he has become the chief minister but my suggestion is that, Kumaraswamy is from a secular party and son of former prime minister Deve Gowda, but BJP is not a casteist party it is also a secular party, BJP is supporting people from all the communities, Narendra Modi is also saying 'Sabaka Saath Sabka Vikas' so it is the responsibility of Kumaraswamy and Deve Gowda to support Narendra Modi that will benefit the Karnataka state."

He stated that the chief minister is crying because of his alliance with the Congress, but if an alliance is formed with BJP, he will be made the 'deputy chief minister'

He said, "He is the chief minister and is now crying because he's disturbed of the Congress party but if he joins the BJP he will become the deputy chief minister then he will not cry. There are some problems, and Congress party is not fully supporting him and Congress is thinking they are in majority and JDS is in minority."

Kumaraswamy during his breakdown claimed that if there was no coalition 'he could have taken some bold steps'.

"If the people had ensured my party won 120 seats I could have taken some bold steps", he said.

Earlier on March 14, 2019,  Janata Dal (Secular) chief HD Deve Gowda had broken down and stated that he was pained by allegations of dynasty politics against him. The former prime minister's emotional response was to growing criticism of his family's alleged nepotism with JD(S) fielding both his grandsons Nikil Kumaraswamy and Prajwal Revanna from party bastions of Mandya and Hassan respectively for the Lok Sabha polls.

"...so many allegations, from morning in the media (they talk about) Deve Gowda, Revanna, Kumaraswamy and their sons," Mr Gowda said as he broke down at an event in Hassan to launch the poll campaign of Prajwal Revanna.
