The Chief Minister of Karnataka, HD Kumaraswamy, broke down at an event in Mandya district while addressing a gathering on Tuesday. Coming down heavily on media for "hampering governance", the JDS leader said:
"I am hurt deeply. From the day I became the chief minister they (media) never let me govern the state peacefully. Not one day they spared me. Media speculating about government collapse and hampering governance. It's my misfortune".
Furthermore, he complained about the coalition compulsions and claimed that if there was no coalition 'he could have taken some bold steps'.
"If the people had ensured my party won 120 seats I could have taken some bold steps", he said.
Earlier on March 14, 2019, Janata Dal (Secular) chief HD Deve Gowda had broken down and stated that he was pained by allegations of dynasty politics against him. The former prime minister's emotional response was to growing criticism of his family's alleged nepotism with JD(S) fielding both his grandsons Nikil Kumaraswamy and Prajwal Revanna from party bastions of Mandya and Hassan respectively for the Lok Sabha polls.
"...so many allegations, from morning in the media (they talk about) Deve Gowda, Revanna, Kumaraswamy and their sons," Mr Gowda said as he broke down at an event in Hassan to launch the poll campaign of Prajwal Revanna.
Prajwal, son of Gowda's elder son and PWD Minister HD Revanna, is Congress-JDS coalition's candidate from Hassan. Seeing Mr Gowda wiping tears and speaking in a heavy voice, JD(S) supporters gathered at the event requested him to calm down. The event also witnessed both Prajwal and his father HD Revanna too getting emotional.
