In the week leading to the Lok Sabha elections which are scheduled to take place in seven phases from April 11 to May 19, Republic TV and CVoter have published the National Approval Ratings - the biggest opinion poll ahead of the all-important elections.

Kerala presents an interesting scenario in these polls as the BJP has undertaken numerous efforts to make headway in the state in recent years, while the Congress and Left remain strong.

Considering the fact that Sabarimala has been a core issue in Kerala, where both BJP and Congress have stood with devotees against the Supreme Court's verdict permitting women aged 10-50 to offer prayers at the temple for the first time in centuries, the saffron party is projected to have been unable to make a mark.

In the 2014 elections, the UPA had won 12 seats while NDA had won 8.

Recent political events:

Congress party president Rahul Gandhi will be contesting from Wayanad, a Congress 'safe seat', apart from his bastion UP's Amethi, in the Lok Sabha 2019 elections.

Following the announcement of Congress party to field Rahul Gandhi from Wayanad, the Chief Minister of the state, Pinarayi Vijayan has stated that the CPI (M) will 'fight him' along with the LDF which will focus its campaign on Wayanad. CPI leaders have also claimed that by choosing Wayanad and not a BJP-ruled seat, Congress has made its agenda clear as to fight LDF.

Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath in an attack has called the IUML - a Congress ally - a 'virus' and fear-mongered over the Congress ally in Kerala, citing 'partition'.

Kerala is set to vote in phase one for all 20 seats on April 11.

Polling will take place in seven phases for all the 29 states and seven Union Territories beginning from April 11 to May 7, 2019. The results will be announced on May 23, 2019.
