BJP's Kerala chief PS Sreedharan Pillai informed on Thursday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address election meetings in the state on April 12. Political clout has been surrounding Kerala after Congress chief Rahul Gandhi decided to contest from Wayanad district. On Thursday, the Congress president also filed his nomination, hours after which PS Sreedharan made the announcement of PM Modi's visit. 

"The Prime Minister will reach Kerala on April 12. He will attend two programmes - one at Kozhikode and another at Thiruvananthapuram," Pillai told the PTI.

He further added that top leaders like Smriti Irani, Yogi Adityanath, Sushma Swaraj and Piyush Goyal will also pay a visit to the state ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. He added that in all 10 Union Ministers are likely to arrive for poll campaigns. 

"Union Textiles minister Smriti Irani will reach the state on April 9, while External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj will be here on April 11," he said.

The party sources in BJP gave a detailed schedule of the BJP leaders’ rallies in Kerala.

They said that Home Minister Rajnath Singh is likely to reach the state on April 13 and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari will campaign for the party on April 15. While Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to reach the state on April 16 and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on April 19. Minority Affairs minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi will campaign for the party on April 20.

Apart from ten Union Ministers, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is also likely to campaign for the party in the state. Sources said that he is expected to arrive two days ahead of the first phase of Lok Sabha polls. 

This will be the first visit of PM Modi to Kerala after the Election Commission issued a notification on March 19, 2019.
