Days before second phase of Lok Sabha Elections on April 18, a new controversy has hit the Congress, with BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya claiming that the Congress set up Rahul Gandhi’s Twitter account for Wayanad back in September 2018 -  months before the idea was publicly mooted by his party.

In Lok Sabha Elections 2019, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi is contesting from the second seat of Wayanad, apart from the Congress bastion in Amethi.

The revelation, if true, exposes the Congress' smoke and mirrors in the matter as Rahul Gandhi and his party had claimed that the Wayanad alternative was because the party cadre in the south wanted him to contest from a seat in the region as well, and also because they purportedly wanted him to represent them in the decision-making of the country. However, now, BJP's Amit Malviya has alleged that the move to contest from Wayanad was preplanned.

As a proof of his claim, Malviya has posted a screenshot of Rahul Gandhi's verified Twitter account for Wayanad that was created back in 2018. He further claimed that Congress had an inclination since 2018 that Amethi is slipping away from their hands.

Rahul Gandhi's contest from Wayanad had created a flutter in the pre-election political scenario, with leaders of the BJP including his Amethi challenger Smriti Irani as well as PM Modi accusing him of 'running away' from the age-old bastion due to fear of defeat.

Election in Wayanad and all other constituencies of Kerala will be held in the third phase of Lok Sabha Elections on April 23. Rahul Gandhi will be contesting against NDA candidate and President of Bharat Dharma Jana Sena (BDJS) Thushar Vellappally.
