In a shocking incident, Congress candidate from Kannur, K Sudhakaran, shared a video advertisement on his Facebook page as a part of his election campaign, professing that it better to educate to man than the woman of the house.

The vide that has stirred controversy on social media, shows an aged patriarchal man and his friend discussing the former's children asking for a share of his property. While the daughter is shown serving tea, the son is seen walking out of the house and slamming his sister for not completing a household job. After this, the 'man of the house' is seen telling his friend his daughter cannot communicate properly with others due to which it was a "waste" educating her to be a teacher.

Listening to this, his friend seems to agree with him and said that the "son would do the job better than anyone else". Shockingly, in the end, the girl is shown smiling after hearing this.

Sudhakaran had shared the video along with a disclaimer saying it does not refer to any characters, dead or alive, or "those who have made speeches in Parliament."

As the video went viral on social media, netizens lashed out at the Congress party and its president Rahul Gandhi over the objectionable sexist advertisement ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.

Meanwhile, the Kerala Women's Commission (KWC) has registered a case against K Sudhakaran for sharing a video with "anti-women" content on his Facebook page. A suo motu case has been registered against the Congress candidate from Kinnaur.

The case was registered as directed by chairperson M C Josephine, a release issued by the Commission said.

In Kannur district, there is a direct fight between Congress and CPI(M) veterans - K Sudhakaran and P K Sreemathi respectively.  Popularly referred to as Sreemathi teacher, P K Sreemathi had won the seat in the 2014 general elections defeating Sudhakaran with a margin of around 6,500 votes.

Earlier, Sudhakaran had courted controversy over his anti-women remarks while targetting Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. He had said the Chief Minister had failed to act like a man when it came to running his office and his tenure was worse than that of women.
