Madhya Pradesh is going into polls to elect legislators for its 230 constituencies on November 28. As many as 2,907 candidates are in the fray for assembly elections this time.

After weeks of extensive, high-pitched election campaigning by both BJP led by PM Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah and Congress led by chief Rahul Gandhi, the stage is set for the people of Madhya Pradesh to put in their votes to form the new government.

As the contest is mainly between the ruling BJP and the Congress in the central Indian state, Congress is eying to topple the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led BJP government that has been in power in Madhya Pradesh for the past 15 years and bidding to regain its power after 2003. Beside BJP and Congress, Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party as also in the battle to form the government in MP.

As per the information by the Election Commission, a total of 65,341 polling booths have been set up in the 230 constituencies of Madhya Pradesh. In the previous Assembly elections that were held in 2013, the BJP has won massive victory with 165 seats, while Congress managed to win only 55 seats. The BSP has won 4 seats.

Counting of votes is scheduled to take place on December 11.

Meanwhile, the Congress party has been facing controversies in the state after a video of state party chief Kamal Nath resolving to Muslim votes to win the election came into the limelight.

In the shocking clip, in which Kamal Nath is both visible and audible, speaking from behind his desk, he makes a number of admissions. From declaring the tribal vote unimportant to his party, to announcing that he is unconcerned whether those who contest for the Congress have cases pending against them, to the most shocking confession -- That unless 90% of Muslim voters don't support the Congress, the party is finished.
