A mega-news development which has all but exposed Congress' religious politics, the full video of party's MLA Kamal Nath speaking with the Muslim leaders on a number of controversial topics has been accessed by Republic TV.
The senior Congress statesman, who was under pressure after a part of this video went viral on social media earlier this month, could be seen accepting in the full video that his party needs only those election candidates who can win them election, regardless of their background or what they have done in the past.
"In terms of selecting a candidate, we have no X-ray. On the basis of survey, news reports, what is being said, this will not work. He did this, he did that, these things won't work with me. Our only objective is to find a candidate who can win. Some say he may have 4 cases against, I'll say let him have five. Does BJP ever say this? I'll say this very clearly that I need a winning a winning candidate. Whoever has the capability to win, we will give ticket to them. It is possible we may make a few mistakes, but that is our aim," Kamal Nath could be heard saying in the video.
At the very same meeting, the Congress leader also stated that his party wouldn't win elections with the votes of Tribals and Advasis, but with the votes of Muslims and other such communities.
"Our leaders, they don't win by the Tribal or Adivasi votes. They are 23%, it may increase to 24%. So I am talking about the importance of other communities. BJP also goes to Tribal communities, so the vote gets divided. It is the other communities which help us to win. So we have to see what is the maths behind. We want as many people from you community to stand for elections," he added.
Kamal Nath also declared that even 80% of the Muslim vote would be insufficient for the Congress, and that only 90% of the votes will save them, and to enable this, the leaders should do everything they can, go polling station to polling station, to find the voters. He adds that all this should be done before the election code of conduct comes into force.
