The Lok Sabha election to Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara seat witnessed a contest between electoral debutant and MP CM Kamal Nath's son, Nakul Nath, and BJP candidate Nathansaha Kawreti.
Chhindwara is known to be a bastion of Kamal Nath and the political debut of his son Nakul from the seat was widely heralded in the lead up to the elections. On April 9, the father-son duo filed their nominations for the state assembly by-polls and Lok Sabha elections respectively.

Before heading to file their nominations, the Naths had offered prayers at a Hanuman temple close to their bungalow in Shikarpur area. After filing the papers, the family prayed at the famous Ram temple, located near Shyam Talkies here, and thereafter reached the Dussehra Maidan where the procession culminated.
On the other hand, Nathansaha Kawreti of the BJP is known as a strong tribal leader and has been a former employee of the Western Coalfields Limited. He has also contested the Assembly elections from M.P’s Junnardeo seat in 2013 and won. The BJP’s campaign also highlighted yet another case of the Congress promoting ‘dynasty’ politics.
Nakul Nath owns moveable and immovable assets worth Rs. 660.01 crore. The figure, mentioned in his affidavit filed along with the nomination papers, is over five times the assets of his parents, which as per CM Nath's affidavit stood at over Rs.124 crore.
While Nakul Nath is a debutant, his father Kamal Nath has represented Chhindwara in Parliament nine times. Addressing a rally during campaigning, Nakul Nath had highlighted how he has often accompanied his father. The BJP has won the seat only once - former MP CM Sunder Lal Patwa’s 1997 by-poll win - but apart from that, right since 1957, it has largely been a Congress bastion.
