Chhindwara is known to be a bastion of Kamal Nath and the political debut of his son Nakul from the seat was widely heralded in the lead up to the elections. On April 9, the father-son duo filed their nominations for the state assembly by-polls and Lok Sabha elections respectively.

RESULT:

With the counting over, MP CM Kamal Nath's son, Nakul Nath has won with 586551 votes, defeating BJP candidate Nathansaha Kawreti by a margin of just

37536.

Before heading to file their nominations, the Naths had offered prayers at a Hanuman temple close to their bungalow in Shikarpur area. After filing the papers, the family prayed at the famous Ram temple, located near Shyam Talkies here, and thereafter reached the Dussehra Maidan where the procession culminated.

On the other hand, Nathansaha Kawreti of the BJP is known as a strong tribal leader and has been a former employee of the Western Coalfields Limited. He has also contested the Assembly elections from M.P’s Junnardeo seat in 2013 and won. The BJP’s campaign also highlighted yet another case of the Congress promoting ‘dynasty’ politics.

Declaration of assets

Nakul Nath owns moveable and immovable assets worth Rs. 660.01 crore. The figure, mentioned in his affidavit filed along with the nomination papers, is over five times the assets of his parents, which as per CM Nath's affidavit stood at over Rs.124 crore.
