Madhya Pradesh which sends 29 lawmakers to the Lok Sabha in the Parliament saw a theatrical battle surrounded by controversies made by the candidates contesting in the state.

Results 2019 Lok Sabha:

The BJP has won with 28 seats and defeated the Congress which got 1 seat in Madhya Pradesh

Highlights during the campaigning in the state:

One of the key hurdles the BJP tried to overcome was the mood of the people who had voted the Congress to power in the state assembly election results. The assembly elections were significant as the Congress overturned years of BJP rule to form a government in the state.

There were several controversies in the state with the key ones being about the battle between Bhopal Lok Sabha poll candidates Sadhvi Pragya of BJP and Digvijaya Singh from the Congress where religion seemed to be the poll plank.

The fielding of Pragya led to the creation of a huge hullabaloo by the Opposition as she is accused in the 2008 Malegaon terror case and out on bail. In addition to that, she made numerous shocking comments which were found to be in violation of the Model Code of Conduct by the Election Commission. From saying she cursed martyr ATS chief Hemant Karkare which caused his death in the 26/11 terror attacks to claiming she was among those who brought down the Babri Masjid and calling Nathuram Godse a patriot, the BJP candidate certainly grabbed the headlines.

Meanwhile, the Congress geared up for the polls by playing up religious credentials. In March, it appointed self-styled godman Namdev Tyagi, also known as Computer Baba, as chairman of a river trust in the state. During Digvijaya Singh's campaigning, the Baba canvassed alongside him.

One of Singh's rally caused the Congress embarrassment as the police officials in plain clothes on duty said that they were asked to wear saffron scarves.
Congress candidate from Guna, Jyotiraditya Scindia was also left red-faced after a farmer during a public meeting questioned him on his party-led government's failure to fulfill its loan waiver promise in ten days. Republic TV had exposed the Congress' hollow promise in its sting 'Operation Karz Maafi'.

Exit polls prediction:

The predictions from both CVoter and Jan Ki Baat showed that NDA will win a huge number of seats but will not achieve the kind of victory it did in 2014.
