Congress ally NCP on Friday lashed out at Sadhvi Pragya, joining the heated debate over the BJP fielding an on-bail terror accused as a candidate in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.

Taking to Twitter, NCP's Rajya Sabha member Majeed Memon has cited Pragya's astonishing and explosive Wednesday press briefing where she had revealed in horrifying detail the torture she was allegedly put through in her time in custody as part of the probe into the 2008 Malegaon blasts case.

In his tweet, Memon says, "If Sadhavi (sic) was tortured in custody, she had all the rights to make grievance to the court where she was regularly produced."

He goes on to reference her breaking down while narrating her ordeal and asks, "Why crying now to attract false sympathy to attract voters?"

Shortly after asking his question, Majeed Memon also spoke to Republic TV where he substantiated his remarks along the lines of what Omar Abdullah had also said on Wednesday regarding her being out on bail despite the case against her being one of terror:

"I must tell you, if you're an accused in any other case you're innocent until proven guilty, but in a terror case it's the other way around. She's secured bail which is an exception in terror cases."

He also picked up on Sadhvi Pragya's declaration that the ongoing election, including her own contest for the Bhopal Lok Sabha seat against senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh - a key player in the erstwhile UPA government's 'Hindu terror' charge regarding the Malegaon blasts cases and others from the same period - is a 'Dharamyudh' (religious battle).

"Where is Dharamyudh? This is secular India. We're fighting for a secular and democratic India," Majeed Memon said.

The Bhopal Lok Sabha constituency will go to the polls on May 12. The BJP has remained undefeated in the seat since 1989.
