Responding to the controversial remark by Bhopal BJP candidate and Malegaon-blast accused Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, the Congress candidate from the constituency Digvijaya Singh said that Congress has never compromised with terrorism and accused former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh of spreading lies. In a poll rally, Sadhvi Pragya had said that a 'sadhvi was forced to come to defeat the terrorist activities and the atrocities on the poor.'
Slamming the remark made by her on the Congress party and its Bhopal candidate, Singh said:
"If I am a terrorist, why don't you arrest me, you should keep me behind bars. Congress party had never aided terrorism, nor has it compromised with it. Pragya ji says I am a terrorist. If I am, then arrest me, put me behind bars, why don't you arrest me. Shivraj Singh Chauhan says I am an anti-national, so I went to the police station and said that I am an anti-national, arrest me. Then the inspector told me that there's no cases against you, so I said then why is your mama (Shivraj Singh Chauhan) spreading lies."
Sadhvi Pragya referring to Digvijaya Singh had said in her poll rally: Uma didi defeated him 16 years ago, now that he has risen, those terrorist who increase unemployment, now one more Sadhvi is here to demolish him." Earlier, former chief minister of madhya Pradesh had said that Digvijaya is an anti-national in his poll rally.
BJP inducted the Malegaon accused into the party and announced that Sadhvi Pragya will contest from the Bhopal constituency of Madhya Pradesh against Congress veteran Digvijaya Singh.
Thakur is among seven accused facing trial in Malegaon blast case, in which six people were killed and a dozen others were injured when a bomb placed on a motorcycle exploded in Maharashtra's Malegaon on September 29, 2008. Polling in Bhopal will take place in the sixth phase of elections. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.
