After BJP announced that it is fielding Sadhvi Pragya from Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh against Congress' Digvijaya Singh, Mehbooba Mufti made a comment communalising the issue.
Sadhvi Pragya is an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case and is currently out on bail. Digvijaya Singh had coined the term "Hindu terror" way back in 2011 and was slammed for it.
Commenting on the news about Pragya's candidature, Mehbooba Mufti by bringing in the religion of terrorists.
"Imagine the anger if I’d field a terror accused. Channels would’ve gone berserk by now trending a mehboobaterrorist hashtag! According to these guys terror has no religion when it comes to saffron fanatics but otherwise all Muslims are terrorists. Guilty until proven innocent"
Earlier, Mufti had batted for 'self-rule' in the state. In a tweet, while addressing a rally, PDP party president claimed that 'self-rule is the most pragmatic approach' to resolve the issue of the state and that to bring about an end to the malevolence between India and Pakistan, the 'South Asia's saner voices are echoing Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's roadmap.
"2020 will also be a deadline from Jammu and Kashmir to the nation. If you remove those terms and conditions on which Jammu and Kashmir acceded to India, our relation with the country will also end," Mehbooba had told reporters after filing her nomination papers from the Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency.
She had also blamed the BJP for the breakdown of her party's alliance with them.
"Whenever I talked to them (BJP) about Kashmir issues, they agreed. But they (BJP) ultimately pulled out of the government because they did not like our demands of extending the cease-fire for more than a month, the recovery of the power projects in Kashmir and dialogue with both Pakistan and the separatists."
