The IPS association condemned the remarks made by BJP Bhopal Lok Sabha polls candidate Sadhvi Pragya about late former Mumbai ATS chief and 26/11 martyr Hemant Karkare on Friday and demanded that all the sacrifices made by the martyrs while fighting against the terrorists must be respected.

Taking to Twitter, the association tweeted :

The association in its tweet has not named anyone in particular, however, it is clear that the statement is in reference to what Sadhvi Pragya Thakur had said about him on Friday.

Speaking in Bhopal, Sadhvi Pragya had accused Hemant Karkare of holding her in custody illegally and trying to concoct evidence against her; adding that he had died as a result of her curse after the Mumbai ATS chief had questioned her in custody during the investigation into the 2008 Malegaon Blasts case in which she is a key accused.

"The officer appointed by the Security Council for investigating the case (Malegaon blasts) was Hemant Karkare. He (Karkare) was told that 'if you don't have any evidence against her, then leave Sadhvi'. It is against the law to hold a person without evidence. He had told that I will do anything and get evidence from anywhere, but will not spare Sadhvi. This was his craftiness. This was treason. It was against duty," Thakur had said.

Responding to the recently inducted BJP leader’s remarks, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi defended Karkare and took to Twitter to attack Sadhvi Pragya:

Owaisi also remarked on Sadhvi Pragya's 'the election is a Dharamyudh (religious battle)' statement saying: ‘they make a question of dharma/Astha as if that’s what’ll create jobs’.

“Elections are elections, not dharmayuddha. But how’s BJP to know that? They make everything a question of dharma/astha as if that’s what’ll create jobs.”
