Hitting out at senior Congress leader and party's candidate for Bhopal, Digvijaya Singh, for not placing his vote in the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections on Sunday, former Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that Digvijaya Singh mocked the Indian democracy exercising his franchise.

Speaking to a reporter in the matter on Monday, Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that Digvijaya Singh does not have faith in CM Kamal Nath's leadership in Madhya Pradesh, adding that he got scared and greedy which is why he stayed in Bhopal on voting day on May 12.

"The election is the festival of democracy. Encouraging others to vote and not voting himself is the mockery of the Indian democracy. You got so scared and got so greedy that went to polling booths. Did you not believe in the leadership of Kamal Nath ji? Did you not want your candidate who was standing from that area to win? This is highly unfortunate and Digvijaya Singh ji you have to respond," said the BJP leader.

Earlier, PM Modi also questioned Digvijaya Singh on missing voting on polling day asking whether 'Diggy Raja' was afraid of his own constituents. He also questioned what kind of example the Congress leader was setting for first-time voters implying that voting is not important.

"These 'mahamilawati' people of Congress are being seen closely by first-time voters of the nation. They view all the news on their mobile phones. Are you teaching that voting is not important to those 21st-century youth who are voting and deciding the future of the nation? You have committed a sin, Diggy Raja," said PM Modi.

On Sunday, Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh, who was supposed to place his vote in Rajgarh, gave the polls a miss.

Speaking to news agency ANI, the Congress leader said that he regrets that he could not vote in Rajgarh, stating that he will register his name in Bhopal next time.

"Yes I couldn't go to vote to Rajgarh and I regret it. Next time I will register my name in Bhopal," Digvijaya Singh said speaking to the media.

Congress' Digvijaya Singh is in a fierce fight with BJP's Pragya Singh Thakur for Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal Lok Sabha seat in the Parliamentary elections.
