  • Shivraj Singh Chouhan has raised Republic Bharat's stunning #OperationKarzMaafi sting at a poll rally in Betul, Madhya Pradesh
  • He has attacked the Congress over their unfulfilled promise of farm loan-waivers

Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has cited Republic Bharat's sensational #OperationKarzMaafi sting operation to level a big attack at the Congress-led government in the state over its unfulfilled poll promise of waiving farm loans.

Addressing a poll rally in Betul, Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan first mocked the Congress party's assurance of how quickly they would waive loans saying 'Waived in two hours, waived in two hours', and then, raised the Republic sting:

"Today, Republic Bharat did a sting operation - three Congress MLAs are talking. One says 'even if you go to a baba praying for children and you get a boon, it still takes nine months for the child to be born, so how can a loan be waived in 10 days?'"

He added, "Republic Bharat has done it, I've not. Second MLA says, 'there's no money, how will we do it? There's no money, how will we do it?'"

Chouhan then came to the third MLA and said, "And the third MLA says 'we'll put a tax, we'll cut from schemes, let's see.'"

Finally, he gave some advice to the Congress by saying, "My friends, if you want to waive loans, it's an easy thing. Reimburse the banks who have given loans to the farmers, the loans will be waived. Isn't it correct? Now Rahul Baba and Kamal Nath aren't paying money..."

Earlier on Friday, Republic Bharat had broadcast the sting operation which revealed the true nature of the Congress' promise of farm loan-waivers. While one stung MLA revealed how he had waylaid farmers by pointing out the impracticality of the 10-day loan-waiver assurance given by Rahul Gandhi ahead of the elections, another MLA openly said that there was no money and that it would have to be raised via taxes or via reducing spending on state schemes. A third MLA, meanwhile, countered the first MLA's contention that nationalised banks were the impediment, even as the sting also revealed that while some farmers were being waylaid, others were having loans far greater than the stipulated Rs 2 lakh waived.

Later, after the Prime Minister also attacked the Congress on their promise while addressing a rally in Rajasthan, former Finance Minister P Chidambaram acknowledged that the poll promise hadn't been fulfilled. Chidambaram pinned the blame on the model code of conduct coming in the way and assessed that the promise had been only half fulfilled in M.P and assured on paper in Rajasthan. He also blamed the PSUs, saying that the Centre was making it difficult for them to waive loans, and if he had his way, he could do it by 'tomorrow'.
