Mizoram Elections 2018: CVoter exit polls projects MNF neck-to-neck with Congress

Republic TV on Friday announced the predictions of the CVoter exit polls for the state of Mizoram, where elections were held on November 28. 

As per the CVoter exit polls for Mizoram, Congress is predicted to garner 14-18 seats in comparison to a massive 34 out of 40 seat win in the 2013 assembly elections, predicting a great loss for the party in the North-eastern state. 

While the Mizo National Front (MNF) is speculated to jump from mere 5 seats in 2013 to 16-20 seats in 2018 elections, giving a sturdy competition to the Congress party that has held the State’s power for two consecutive terms. 

Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) is predicted to win 3-7 seats in the 2018 elections, compared to none in the last assembly elections.Meanwhile, Others are predicted to win a seat share between 0-3 out of the total 40 seats.

While, when it comes to vote share, Congress is anticipated to win 32.2%, walking neck-to-neck with MNF with 31.9% vote shares. While ZPM and others stand at 23.4% and 12.% respectively.

Among all the five states in polls, Mizoram is the only Congress-led state with party leader Lal Thanhawla as the Chief Minister. While the party has been in power for two consecutive terms, it is striving for a third successive term against a predominant challenge from the Mizo National Front, headed by former Chief Minister Zoramthanga. Mizoram, is the last remaining bastion for the Congress in the Northeast. The state went to polls on November 28. 

The election campaign in Mizoram, has always been a low key affair compared to rest of India or say even the Northeast. Known for free and fair elections, the Election Commission of India declared Mizoram a ‘Model State’ in 2013. But, this time things are slightly different. Political mudslinging is at its peak. And it is all centered on BJP and the NEDA

With the assembly elections, the final countdown to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections has begun. The results of the assembly polls in all five states, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Mizoram and Chhattisgarh will profoundly determine the national mood.
