Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav is scheduled to meet Congress General Secretary from Uttar Pradesh East Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday to take forward his request for a ticket from the grand old party to contest against BJP Delhi chief Manoj Tiwari. This development has come hours after he met Delhi Congress chief Sheila Dikshit at her residence in the national capital.

While the actor claimed that the meeting with Sheila Dikshit was for personal reasons, according to sources, Yadav is seeking a Congress ticket from the North East Delhi constituency seat to take on Manoj Tiwari in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections 2019.

Rajpal Yadav's intent to contest the Lok Sabha elections on a Congress ticket comes days after a long back-and-forth between the AAP and the Congress over forming an alliance in the national capital. While Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal was keen on an alliance in Delhi to take on BJP, Congress president Rahul Gandhi gave the ultimatum against an alliance.

On the work front, actor Rajpal Yadav came out of prison late February after serving sentence in a case of non-repayment of a loan. Stating that he is healthy and happy, he expressed keenness on going back to work in films. It was in November 2018 that the Delhi High Court sentenced him to three months in prison for non-repayment of a loan of Rs 5 crore that his company took to produce a film in 2010.

In 2014, Manoj Tiwari emerged victorious with almost six lakh votes in a contest against Congress' Jai Prakash Aggarwal from the North East Delhi constituency.

Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to kickstart from April 11, with Delhi going to polls in a single phase on May 12. The results of the elections will be announced on May 23 with the counting of votes taking place on the same day.
